Lietuvos bei daugelio kitų Europos valstybių konstitucijų kūrėjai pripažino vyro ir moters šeimą kaip pamatinę visuomenės ląstelę ir pagrindą, ant kurio laikosi visa socialinė visuomenės struktūra. Tačiau pastaraisiais dešimtmečiais pasaulis patiria vis didesnį ideologinį, politinį ir intelektualinį spaudimą atsisakyti prigimtinės šeimos sampratos, grįstos vyro ir moters santuoka bei kraujo ryšiais, ją pakeisti naujais teisiniais konstruktais, kuriais šeimos samprata būtų išplėsta iki įvairių stilių bendro gyvenimo formų.

Tarptautinėje konferencijoje „Europos ateitis, šeima ir prigimtinės žmogaus teisės“ bus diskutuojama, ar siekis keisti pamatinę socialinę struktūrą yra pakankamai pagrįstas? Kokias pasekmes Europos valstybių visuomenėms ir pačios Europos ateičiai turės prigimtinės šeimos sampratos išsižadėjimas? Ar tai veda visuomenes į pažangą? Ar yra patikimi kriterijai, kuriais galime įvertinti tokių pokyčių naudą arba žalą? 

Konferencijos organizatoriai siekia, kad konferencijoje išsakytos mintys bei įžvalgos paskatintų politikus, visuomenės nuomonės formuotojus ir plačiąją visuomene gilintis ir geriau suprasti prigimtinės šeimos sampratos turinį, jos vietą dabartiniame Vakarų civilizacijos raidos etape bei motyvuotų išvengti skubotų, neapgalvotų ir ateities kartoms ilgalaikes pasekmes turėsiančių sprendimų.

Pranešimai bus verčiami į lietuvių ir anglų kalbas.

Virtual conference-discussion on the future of Europe, the family and natural human rights will take place on February 19, 2021

The authors of the constitutions of the Republic of Lithuania and many other European countries recognized family as the basic cell of society and as the foundation of the entire social structure. In recent decades, world have been under increasing ideological, political, and intellectual pressure to abandon the natural concept of the family, based on marriage and kinship ties, and to replace it with new legal constructs. Usually, such aspirations are motivated by the desire to expand the concept of family to include all forms of cohabitation, regardless of a lifestyle of the individuals involved. Such changes allegedly will make society more open, equal and more respectful of individual freedom. Proponents claim that the extension of the concept of family will not have any significant negative consequences for societies and that there are no objective and rational arguments as to why the right of same-sex couples to form a family should not be recognized. 

In the context of these processes and debates, it is particularly important to consider whether the desire to change the basic social structure is sufficiently justified. What will be the consequences for European societies and for the future of Europe itself of renouncing the concept of the natural family? Would such changes facilitate social progress? What are reliable criteria, if any, by which we can assess the benefits or harms of such changes?

The conference is related to the ongoing discussion in the Seimas of the Republic of Lithuania on granting legal family status to same-sex couples via the legalization of gender-neutral partnerships. The organizers of the conference expect that the thoughts and insights expressed at the event will encourage politicians, opinion leaders and the general public to deepen their knowledge and to understand better the content of the natural family, its current place in the Western civilization, and to avoid hasty and ill-considered decisions with long-term negative consequences.

The conference will feature 3-to-5 speakers from Lithuania, the EU and the US, who will deliver 20 – 30 min. reports. Proceedings will be translated into Lithuanian and English.
